# TraceUX > TraceUX is a free, unlimited, self-hosted UX suite for web applications. It combines DOM-event session replay, contextual feedback, visitor support tickets, product announcements, browser and service logs, backend performance, and Slack Webhook alerts on infrastructure controlled by the operator. TraceUX is source-available under the TraceUX Community Source License v1.0. Self-hosted use has no required SaaS account, per-seat fee, or vendor-enforced session quota. Practical capacity depends on the operator's server, storage, retention, and recording configuration. Key facts: - Deployment uses one Go binary with embedded SQLite. - Replays are reconstructed from DOM events with rrweb; TraceUX does not store screen-recording video. - Export for AI downloads a self-describing JSON with raw replay events, DOM changes, click coordinates, browser logs and an embedded format guide for Claude, Codex and other file-reading agents. No MCP server or direct database access is required. - Visual reproduction requires a browser/rrweb renderer and available external assets. Masking remains applied; backend state and application source are not bundled. - Operators control the collection endpoint, storage, retention, access, and masking of sensitive fields. - The tracker supports NPM, a direct script tag, and Google Tag Manager. - TraceUX is source-available, not an OSI-approved open-source project. - Shared or hosted versions must retain TraceUX branding and notices; modified versions must provide corresponding source. - TraceUX may not be white-labeled, rebranded, sold, licensed, sublicensed, or distributed as a separate product or service under another brand. ## Product and documentation - [TraceUX homepage](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/): Product overview, interactive tour, self-hosting model, features, and frequently asked questions. - [TraceUX documentation](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/documentation): Installation, updates, tracker setup, configuration, privacy, recordings, feedback, support tickets, announcements, logs, performance, and Slack Webhooks. - [TraceUX source repository](https://github.com/fjosue4/trace-ux): Application source, project README, installation scripts, tracker, dashboard, and server. - [TraceUX releases](https://github.com/fjosue4/trace-ux/releases): Versioned Linux release archives and checksums. - [TraceUX license](https://github.com/fjosue4/trace-ux/blob/main/LICENSE): Canonical TraceUX Community Source License v1.0 text. - [AI debugging export](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/#ai-debugging): Export a recorded session for AI bug reproduction with Claude or Codex. ## UX blog - [AI bug reproduction with Claude and Codex](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/blog/ai-bug-reproduction-claude-codex): New export workflow, included technical evidence and reproduction limits. - [UX blog](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/blog): Practical articles about session replay and website UX. - [What is session replay?](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/blog/what-is-session-replay): How website recordings work and how to investigate friction. - [Free session replay tools](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/blog/free-session-replay-tools): Hosted, self-hosted, and library options with operating tradeoffs. - [Website UX audit checklist](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/blog/website-ux-audit-checklist): A practical task-based audit and evidence-to-fix workflow. ## Free and unlimited alternatives - [Free Hotjar alternative](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/free-hotjar-alternative): Comparison for teams considering self-hosted replay and feedback instead of Hotjar, including scaling tradeoffs. - [Free Smartlook alternative](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/free-smartlook-alternative): Migration-oriented comparison for web session replay, feedback, tickets, and logs. - [Free FullStory alternative](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/free-fullstory-alternative): Comparison for teams that need focused self-hosted replay rather than enterprise experience analytics. - [Free LogRocket alternative](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/free-logrocket-alternative): Comparison covering session replay, browser logs, backend performance, and debugging context. - [Free Mouseflow alternative](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/free-mouseflow-alternative): Comparison for teams prioritizing owned replay data over heatmaps and form analytics. - [Free Contentsquare alternative](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/free-contentsquare-alternative): Comparison for teams that do not need a large enterprise digital-experience platform. ## Support and discovery - [Issues and support](https://github.com/fjosue4/trace-ux/issues): Bug reports, feature requests, and project support. - [XML sitemap](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/sitemap.xml): Complete list of indexable pages. - [Robots policy](https://trace-ux.builtbyfrank.dev/robots.txt): Crawler access rules and sitemap location. ## Optional - [Repository contributors](https://github.com/fjosue4/trace-ux/graphs/contributors): Project contributors and contribution history. - [Repository stargazers](https://github.com/fjosue4/trace-ux/stargazers): GitHub community interest in TraceUX.
